The
Pattaya Hash was founded by an ex Bang-kokian expat, Molly
Kirgis "Matress", with the help of her husband
Hans, both Germans. The first run on January 7th 1984 had
precisly 12 'hashers', mostly from the Bangkok hash. They
probably came for moral support. Among those 12 was one
world famous hasher who died January 24th 1998, Tim Hughes
"Magic".
For the first 3 months the Pattaya Hash was a monthly occurenance
and in April this changed to a bi-monthly event. In November
of the same year we booked 3 runs and as of December 1984
it became what it is know among the early Pattaya hashers:
The Pattaya Monday Hash.
The
Monday Hash was not always the Monday Hash. It started as
a Saturday hash until Frank Benfield "The Whorator",
the first Grandmaster of the PH3, showed up end of August.
He changed it to Thursday. That didn't last long though
and as of November 26th 1984, after 19 total runs (13 Saturdays
and 6 Thursdays) it became The Pattaya (Monday) Mixed Hash
House Harriers.
A big milestone in our history was definitely the Interhash
1986, March 28-30. Pattaya hosted it, but it was truely
Bangkok who got 'the job'.

Thanks
to the strong ties among the two hashes it was decided Pattaya
is a better place to host the event. The PH3 Monday run
after the Interhash weekend had the most runners ever: 576.
Twice we were the hosts for Hash Asia, 1990 and 1992. Hash
Asia 1990 booked a strong 151 hashers while 2 years later
it was mere 68. However, the suprise came the Monday after
when we had 119 hashers. So much for Hash Asia events. Who
needs those long weekend events?
The Pattaya Hash has been on a gradual rise of hashers and
hit its higest plateau during 1990-92. This high was followed
by a low during 1994-97. Since then we have been on a rise
again. 1998 is equal to the high plateaus in the early 90's,
1999 has overshot it and it remains to be seen what the
year 2000 will bring.
Thanks
go to Molly Kirgis and BJ, who joined on run #2. BJ supported
Molly during these hard times of starting a hash in a town
where hashing wasn't known and the local's most popular
fitness activity was bar hopping.
On On !!!
